WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- As we told you last night Wrightsville Beach and two of its police officers face a federal lawsuit for allegedly violating the civil rights of a town alderman's son.
Today we hoped to get a look at what happened, but the town said no.
Adam Mills, the son of Wrightsville Beach Alderman Darryl Mills, claims police violated his civil rights after a November 2011 DWI stop.
We asked for video from inside the police station of what happened.
The town's defense attorney Clay Collier said we would be able to get a copy because the event is not under criminal investigation.
Town Manager Tim Owens later told us that Town Attorney John Aessell would release the video today, but Wessell said today he needs time to review the video, even though the incident happened two years ago, and the lawsuit was filed July 1.
Wessell also questioned if the video is public record. We believe it is.
You may remember in 2011 video released from inside the Wrightsville Beach Police station helped clear a state trooper after a woman accused him of intimidation.
